Steven Troy Harrell

April 19, 1964 — July 19, 2024

Middlesboro, KY

Steven Troy Harrell, age 60, of Middlesboro, KY, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, KY, with his two loving children by his side. Steve was born April 19, 1964, in Detroit, MI, to the late Eddie and Jewell Harrell.

Steve moved to Middlesboro at the age of nine and graduated with the Middlesboro High School Class of 1982. His passion for life extended to his hobbies and interests. He crafted unforgettable memories while bowling and playing Rook with his friends on the weekends. Music was a constant companion throughout his life - from touring as a drummer in a band with his brothers and friends in the early 80’s to simply enjoying its harmonies in quieter moments.

Steve's journey in life was marked by his unwavering faith. As a young adult, he embraced Christianity and later dedicated nearly a decade of his life to serving as a Baptist pastor. He was eager to be welcomed into the arms of his Lord.

Beyond his spiritual calling, Steve found immense joy in being a devoted father. He never missed cheering on his daughter at soccer games and he took great pride in listening to his son's musical talents. Family was at the core of his being, and he cherished every moment spent with his children.

A man of many friendships, Steve was a proud member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #119. Within his community, he nurtured connections that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. It was through these bonds that he found laughter and camaraderie that brought light to even the darkest of days.

Known for his contagious sense of humor, Steve had an innate ability to bring smiles to faces wherever he went. His quick wit and love for sharing jokes endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Steve leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and friendship that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie “Pappaw” and Jewell “Mammaw,”; his mother-in-law, Judy “Nanny” Sutton; and two loving grandmothers.

Steve is survived by his former wife, Sonya, and their two children, Evan and Bekah; his siblings, Ted (Ann) Harrell, Tina Harrell, Eddie Harrell, Jr., and Melissa (Ed) Smith; his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly; and a host of loving family and friends.

His children would like to give special thanks to the staff at U.K. Chandler Hospital and Bluegrass Care Navigators for their exceptional care for Steve throughout his extensive stay and their compassion for both them and their father as he passed from this life to the next.

May he be remembered for the light he brought into the world and the joy he shared with everyone around him. Rest in peace, Steven Troy Harrell.
