Shirley Nelson Greene

Shirley Nelson Greene, age 83, of Clear Creek, KY, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. She was born August 15, 1941, the daughter of the late John Nelson, Jr. and Dora Miracle. 

Shirley dedicated a significant portion of her life to her profession, retiring from the Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility at the age of 72. Raised by her maternal grandparents, Jim and Lindy Hoskins, she was instilled with strong values that guided her throughout her life.

Those who had the fortune of knowing Shirley will remember her for her unwavering respect for all individuals, treating everyone with the dignity that one hopes to receive in return. Her kindness was a hallmark of her character, and she always endeavored to do the right thing. As a devoted mother, she imparted these vital values to her children, preparing them for the complexities of life. Her love for her family was boundless, and she remained a constant source of support and comfort, always there when needed. Her children reflect on her life with gratitude, understanding that they now carry the torch of her teachings and compassion.

Towards the end of her journey, Shirley expressed a longing to be reunited with her dearly departed loved ones, a sentiment she referred to as "going home." Today, we honor her wishes, for she has indeed found her way home. Godspeed, Mom.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, James H. Hoskins and Malinda Hoskins; husband, Don Greene; father of her children, Harold Miracle; sisters, Mary Saylor and Anna Marie Miracle; and a special aunt, Virgie Duncan. 

Shirley is survived by her sons, Harold Lynn Miracle and wife Kim and Jim Miracle and wife Florenda; daughter, Linda Hendrickson and husband Michael; grandchildren, Jim Miracle, Trevor Miracle, Donald Ray Poore, Julie Goodin and Jessica Cantrell; great grandchildren, Austin Goodin, Connor Goodin, Jesslynn Miracle, Michael Brooks Poore, Ruby Jo Poore, Natalia Miracle and Jessie Cantrell; brothers, McKinley Miracle, Jr. and Gary Miracle; sisters, Deanna Wilder, Brenda Ingram and Debra Gail Miracle; and a host of other family and friends. 

The family of Shirley Nelson Greene will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Sutton and Rev. Thomas Heck presiding.  Music will be provided by Amy Childress and Lea Gibson.

A graveside service for Shirley Nelson Greene will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Cubbage Cemetery, Cubbage, KY.  Family and friends will meet at Cawood Funeral Home, Middlesboro, KY, at 12:00 p.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.  

Pallbearers will be Jim Miracle, Trevor Miracle, Donald Ray Poore, Derrick Goodin, Austin Goodin, Connor Goodin, and Michael Brooks Poore.
