Lillie Sweat

October 24, 1930 — September 5, 2021

Middlesboro

Lillie Sweat, age 90, of Middlesboro, KY passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 24, 1930, in Middlesboro, KY, the daughter of the late William and Daisy Milligan.

She was a longtime member of the Church of the First Born.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was the best patient ever, through all of her sickness, she never lost her sense of humor.  Her faith was always so strong.  She was the strongest person we ever knew.  We loved her dearly and she did us also.  She is in a better place now, wrapped in the arms of Jesus.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Sweat; daughters, Judy Ann Redmond and infant, Alice Jean Sweat; sons, Raymond Sweat and Jimmy Sweat; daughter-in-law, Linda Sweat; grandchildren, Michael Redmond, Mark Lucas Cole, Tammy Sweat and infant Wilma Sweat; and great-grandchild, Kylee Ann Sweat.

She is survived by the following members of her family:

Sons, Carl Sweat of Clarks Hill, IN, whom she said was hardheaded like her, Kenneth (Bernice) Sweat of Lafayette, IN, whom she always counted on to work on her little projects or to fix something that needed repaired and also to take her shopping when they came in.

Daughters, Christine (Jack) Goodman of Speedwell, TN, Althea (Woody) Wyatt of Middlesboro, KY, Mary Sweat of Middlesboro, KY and Diana Ogle of Middlesboro, KY.

Christine was moms protector.  Anything mom needed, she and Jack always tried to help her get it done in one way or another.

Althea and Woody gave mom a place to keep her ponies, this way she could go feed them anytime she wanted to.  They were always ready to help her in any way they could.

Mary was moms baby girl.  She lived with mom and was her partner in everything, but the roles reversed, and mom spoiled her until she could no longer get up.

Diana lived beside of mom.  Just the other day, mom agreed that Diana was “fixin to be a genius!” (Mom was a smart woman).  Diana was always there to help in any way she could.

Mom always knew we did everything we could for her.  All she wanted was to be home with us all.

She is also survived by her Daughter-in law, Brenda Sweat; grandchildren, Michelle Minton, Carol Sweat, Kim Daughtery, Jason Sweat, Melissa Minton, Susan Minton, Cassie Partin, Desiree Sweat, Lee Sweat, Denice Loveless, Kevin Sweat, Dawn Green, Paul Goodman, Dana Southern, Matthew Cole, “Lily” Kristie Ogle and Katherine Ogle; over 27 great-grandchildren; and her company keepers great-grandson, William, who always made her laugh, Matt “Batman”, she called her walking stick.

Also left to grieve are her special sisters in church, Lena Barnett and Rachael Rains; her beloved pastor, James Oliver Barnett, and church members.  Their prayers combined have brought about many miracles.

And a host of other family members and friends.

She never gave up the fight.  Her faith remained strong through it all.  When she took her last breath, we knew she was now wrapped in the arms of Jesus.  We love and miss her dearly, but we are glad she is at rest now.

The family sends a special thanks to Dr. C.A. Moore, Marcina Bailey and the staff of Bluegrass Hospice.

Due to the Covid situation, the family will have a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Oakview Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY with Pastor Herstel Belcher officiating.  Music will be provided by the singers from the Church of the First Born.
