On the morning of June 15, 2021, the Lord called home Julian Mack Costner. He was the son of the late Altonette and Eugene Costner, born on January 16, 1939, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Julian was a member of the White Memorial AME Zion Church in Middlesboro, KY. Julian graduated from Lincoln High School in Middlesboro, KY in 1957. He then went on to graduate from Tucker Barber College in Louisville, KY 1957. He worked as a barber for several years. Julian spent some time in Los Angeles working before coming back to Middlesboro to work for Consolidated Coal Company where he would eventually retire in 1992.
Julian was the husband of Esther Thomas Costner. They raised their family in Middlesboro and recently moved to Louisville, KY in 2019.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents, Altonette and Eugene Costner. His sister Jeanette Baker and brothers Vincent Costner, William (Bill Jones) Costner and Nathan Costner.
Julian leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Esther, their two sons, Byron (Yolanda) Costner of Lexington, KY, and Jerome (Jana) Costner, Louisville, KY. He has four grandchildren, Jared and Whitley Costner of Lexington, KY, and Aidan and Ava Costner of Louisville, KY; sister-in-laws, Bernice Costner of Syracuse, NY, Betty Costner of Ontario, CA, Rochelle Purdue of Toledo, OH, Wanda Brown of Middlesboro, KY, Brenis Woods of Lexington, KY, Alfreda (Mark) Miller of Tucson, AZ, Michelle Thomas of South Bend, IN; a brother-in-law Edward (Nadine) Thomas, Bono, AR; aunt Amelia Taylor of Charleston, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and best friend, Richard Blackburn.
The family of Julian Mack Costner will receive friends on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 11:00 am until the hour of celebration at 1:00 pm at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY. The Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 pm in the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend George Kukubor, Pastor and Officiant of White Memorial AME ZION Church officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
