Gwendolyn Sue (Adams) Farris, age 85, a long-time resident of Pineville, Kentucky, peacefully passed to her heavenly father on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones at her current home in London, Kentucky. She was born in Lynch, Kentucky on March 13, 1937, daughter of the late James E. Adams and Dessie Mae (McGeorge) Adams.
Sue was a graduate of Lynch High School Class of 1955. She then trained at Norton Memorial Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville, KY. After completing her studies and becoming a Registered Nurse, she began working at the Harlan Hospital, where she met a young pharmacist, Wayne J. Farris, who would soon become her husband. Together they enjoyed a family journey lasting more than six decades. Upon marriage, Sue turned in her nursing whites and dedicated herself to being a full-time wife and mother. Together, they raised three loving children and were fixtures of downtown Pineville where they owned and operated Farris Drug Store. Sue could often be found creating mesmerizing seasonal displays in the store-front window for the whole town to enjoy.
Sue lived a full life as a faithful Christian. She practiced her faith through service at the First Baptist Church of Pineville where she gave generously of her time and talents. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, planned and participated in mission trips, supported the youth ministry, in which she kept her children very active, and generously supported the members and ministers. She dearly loved opening her home and hosting events for friends and family, creating innumerable joyful memories. While Sue was well known and celebrated for her fabulous cooking and baking, many may not have known that she was also a talented artist and musician, who played the piano beautifully. Sue Farris lived each day to the fullest and clearly left the world and those around her better off for her amazing life.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brothers, James Donald Adams and Jack Thomas Adams.
Left to mourn her memory and cherish her legacy are her loving husband of sixty-one years, Wayne J. Farris; her three children, Greg Farris, Lisa (Barry) Bingham, and Suzanne (Brad) Loutsenhizer; her grandchildren, William “Will” and Jackson Farris, Anna Katherine and Andrew Bingham, and Adam and Alexandra “Alexa” Loutsenhizer, nieces and nephews, Dann (Dawn) Adams, Cynthia Adams-Coombes (Dave) and their children, Spencer Adams, Chase Adams and Griffith Adams; as well as her extended family and cherished friends who will deeply miss her.
