Fern Rains, age 75, born September 29, 1943, a resident of Middlesboro, Kentucky, went home to be with Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 29, 2019, at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Fern returned to college at age 54 to pursue her lifelong dream of being a nurse. She retired at the age of 70 from the Kentucky Department of Corrections at the Kentucky State Reformatory as an RN.
She was a hardworking, loving mother, wife, sister, and friend. She loved to read and watched Jeopardy.
She left a beautiful testimony of Her Faith in God. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 16. She was a founding member of Dunlap Baptist Church where she served as Choir Leader, Sunday School teacher, and church van driver. She had been a member of Garmeada Baptist Church since 2004.
She loved to sing. She was a member of the Missionary Quartet where she sang on local radio stations, at church services and funerals.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert Lee and Hassie Cox Daniel, brothers Granville and Henry Saylor, Roscoe, Esco, Harvey Lee, Earl, Roy, Orby, F.D. Daniel and sisters Maggie Boster and Inez Shelby and her loving husband Ben Rains who passed away in 1992.
She is survived by her three daughters, Abby Rains, Beth Rains and Mitzi (Philip) Riggs and her brother White Daniel, five grandchildren - Allison Hawk, A.J. Hawk, Summer Hawk, Nicole Riggs, and Ben Riggs; three great-grandchildren Lacey Hopson, Caden Hawk, and Jessy Clay Partin and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn her passing.
Visitation to honor her life will be held on Monday, July 1st from 5-7 pm at Creech Funeral Home, at 112 South 21st Street, Middlesboro, Kentucky. The funeral to follow after at 7:00 pm with her Pastor Rev. Dewayne (Kojak) Graves presiding. Music will be provided by a choir of fellow church members. Graveside services to be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm at Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
