Cecil Burton Hubbard, Sr., age 91, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Duffield, VA. He was born on April 16, 1933, in Wise, VA.
In his earlier years, he served in the US Army as a medic in the 101st Airborne Division and later retired from the US Coast Guard shipyard in Baltimore, MD, as a civilian welder.
Cecil never met a stranger, and you knew that he liked you when he was cutting up or picking on you. He was deeply passionate about topics that interested him, especially his relationship with the Lord. His natural capacity for empathy showed through even in his final years as he was often sharing words of encouragement and scriptures to lift the spirits of others.
He was preceded in death by his parents Doyle Emory Hubbard, Sr. and Nellie Naomi (Mullins) Hubbard; wife of 12 years Marjorie Helen (Scott) Hubbard; wife of 52 years Charlene Carolyn (Cavin) Hubbard; son Lyndon Hubbard; granddaughter Jessica Hubbard; two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his children, Cecil Hubbard Jr. (Ying), Terry Hubbard (Carolyn), Valerie Buttery (RJ), and Carolyn Nalley (Stan); grandchildren, Angela Hubbard, Andrea Ballard, Philip Buttery, Ashley Dalton, and Kyndra Hubbard; nine great-grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at Pace Cemetery in Rose Hill, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family is deeply grateful to the wonderful staff at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving attention to Cecil during his time there.
