Allen Ray Abbott, age 87, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 in his home under hospice care.
Allen was born December 21, 1933 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, he was the son of Jake and Hazel (Ayers) Abbott. He married Patricia A. Notario April 28, 1962 at St. Joseph Church, Monroe, with Fr. Vanadia officiating.
He attended Middlesboro Public Schools. He then served in the U.S. Army August 2, 1954 to August 30, 1956 in the Second Armor Division as a Tank Commander.
He worked for Jefferson Smurfit as a papermaker until they closed.
Allen loved to garden and plant flowers. In his younger days, he enjoyed working on cars.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Abbott; sons, Gregory (Connie) Abbott of Huntsville, Alabama, Bryan Abbott, Sr of Monroe and Chad (Rachel) Abbott of Monroe; treasured grandchildren, Bryan II, Jacob (Heather), Logan, Bryce, Brynn, Madison, Jessen and Caleb; treasured great grandchildren, Lilly and Colson; brothers, Jake (Hazel) Abbott, Jr, Joel Abbott and Donald Abbott all of Middlesboro, KY; sisters, Jerry (Dennis) Waltz of Flat Rock, Frances Epoch of West Branch, MI, Angie Scarbrough of Terre Haute, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Mary Notario; brothers, Paschal, Wentford, Admiral and Ronald; sister, Phyllis Johnson and cherished great grandson, Bryan Allen Abbott III.
Visitation will be held from 11 – 1 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd, with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m., Rev. Lawrence Detruf will officiate. Private burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. All visitors are asked to follow current protocols regarding face coverings and social distancing.
